Smart animals that are sensitive enough and loyal to their master can easily be trained and get along well with children. The main task of the Moscow guard dog is to protect the family, the animal is completely fearless and never retreats in the fray. There were times when dogs gave their lives for the benefit of their master and his relatives.
The main characteristics of the breed
Outwardly, four-legged animals look quite massive, have a strong skeleton and large muscles. Their body is slightly elongated, and their legs are large and long. The average height varies from 68 to 78 cm (in dogs) and 66-73 cm (in females). The advantages of this breed are its large growth and massiveness, while small and weak individuals are not too quoted by dog breeders.
- The weight of males exceeds 60, and females - 45 kg.
- Strong and short neck.
- Large voluminous head with a wide forehead.
- Hanging ears are triangular in shape.
- Round, wide-set eyes.
- Thick undercoat.
- Thick and long coat, slightly shortened to the head. A large volume of the coat is given by manes, “pants” and “fox tails”. These signs are characteristic of males.
- The color of the coat is most often white-red or brown. Close attention is paid to the specific color of the muzzle: dark "glasses" should be symmetrical, covering their eyes. In thoroughbred individuals in the center of the muzzle is a hole. If there are no such outlines, this is considered a significant flaw.
- Dogs are quite mobile, trotting or galloping. The dog is distinguished by obedient behavior, the dog shows respect for its owners, can be used as a convoy or as a guard (Fig. 1).

The behavior and character of an adult dog is directly proportional to the upbringing and quality of the breeding process. Depending on the genealogy, the nature of animals may vary. So, if there are St. Bernard mestizos in the family, the dog grows more quiet, peaceful, inactive. Phlegmatic nature is inherent in such animals.

If among the ancestors Caucasian shepherds prevailed, the dog will grow mobile, with an explosive character. Such dogs have more pronounced protective qualities, they are forever attached to the owner and are ready to serve him for many years. Sometimes dogs are quite stubborn due to excessive independence.

The main qualities that characterize the breed include:
- Easy to train. Representatives of this species of animals are extremely susceptible to training.
- Fidelity and constancy. Dog agrees to carry out all the commands of the owner and selflessly protect his family members from dangers.
- Peacefulness. The Moscow watchdog agrees remarkably with other pets, even the most impetuous cat can easily get along with a pet. Dogs love the children of their master and even ride them on a sled if the animal is accustomed to such fun from childhood.
- Energy. Despite the large size, dogs love to move.
- Independence and autonomy. In emergency cases, the dog is able to make a decision without the owner's command.
It is important to understand that the animal is wary of strangers, therefore, it is not worth the Moscow guard dog to let go for a walk without a leash in busy areas. In order for the pet to form the correct character, you need to pay a lot of attention to his training and comprehensive education. This dog prefers to guard and protect the territory silently. Often attacks without a warning bark.

Care for the Moscow Watchdog
Given the fact that this Russian breed was bred as an unpretentious species in the conditions of detention, Moscow watchmen require a minimum of attention and care. It is easiest to keep a pet in a private house, but if you want and with little effort, it will be possible to settle the animal in the apartment.
In winter, a Moscow watchdog puppy should not be left in a cold enclosure, and if the dog lives in an apartment, then walks in the fresh air should be gradually begun. The pet needs to provide its own place, providing the animal with toys, and set aside a separate territory for feeding.
For the full development of puppies and adult dogs must eat strictly by the hour, the diet should include a variety of foods rich in vitamins and nutrients. Veterinarians do not recommend abruptly changing the usual animal food for a new one. It is difficult for dogs of such sizes to provide good nutrition with expensive food, so many owners make a menu of natural products, such as cereals, vegetables and lean meat. Feeding with flour products, sausages, river fish, fatty meat and small bones is prohibited, as it can lead to a malfunction of the digestive system and obesity.
Since the hair of this breed is quite long and thick, it must be combed at least 1 time per week, otherwise it will begin to roll. These dogs molt, but not much. It is enough to bathe the pet 4 times a year. Do not forget about caring for the face and limbs of the animal. Ears and eyes are periodically examined for infection. If necessary, the organs of vision and hearing are processed and long claws are cut if they do not grind on their own. These dogs need exercise in large quantities. Try to give your animal the opportunity to run in a safe, spacious area as often as possible (Fig. 2).

Training this breed of dogs takes a lot of time and requires the patience of the owner. The reason for this is the innate distrust of animals to everything new. During training, you may get the feeling that before you execute any command, the dog carefully thinks it over.
The Moscow watchdog breed is rather slow in the process of training, but its owner should be patient, as it is inherent in a dog to learn commands once and for all. The animal does not need to constantly consolidate long-acquired skills. Breeders advise using reward techniques in the form of dog sweets or sweet words. The dog begins to execute the owner's commands from 4 months (Fig. 3).
The Moscow watchdog is a big mistake in raising a breed of dogs is permission to play the role of head of the family. For correct training, the dog needs to be explained which actions are allowed and which are not. You should not raise your voice on an animal and punish it for no reason. You need to be prepared for the fact that in the first months in the behavior of patrol puppies there is excessive activity, so you will have to endure pranks in the house for some time.
Whatever type of training was chosen for the dog, the basis of the lessons should be a complete understanding of the owner with the dog and its willingness to obey. As the saying goes, with proper upbringing, even a small, energetic kitten will get a real guard cat.

The Moscow watchdog can be knitted from the moment the animals reach the age of 2 years. To select a male, you should contact the kennel, where specialists will select a dog that meets all the requirements of the owner of the female. It is important that the dog is mature at the time of mating, the best option for the first mating is the third estrus.
In order to avoid defects in the embryo, only a healthy female must be knitted, having previously been vaccinated. In case of obesity, the dog should reduce weight, as obesity often leads to pregnancy pathologies. To calculate the mating period, the onset of estrus should be determined, which is characterized by light pink discharge from the genitals.
It should be borne in mind that any dog has a peculiar character and a special approach is required for each of them. But, having decided to get this kind and affectionate animal in his house, the owner at the same time acquires a brave defender, loyal friend and incorruptible guard.
