Juniper high is an evergreen coniferous tree whose range of existence covers the following territories:
- Asia Minor;
- Middle Asia;
- Southeast Europe
Distinctive features are drought tolerance and photophilia, however, at the same time, it can withstand low temperatures, in particular, frost resistance up to - 25 degrees Celsius is noted.
Despite the wide population, it is slowly but surely declining against the backdrop of:
- cutting down juniper forests, including for making souvenirs and crafts;
- expansion of resort construction;
- agricultural progression;
- affection with juniper berry tick.
In addition, such a plant is widely used in the technical and essential oil industry.
Juniper high is a shrub or tree that can reach a height of up to 15 meters. It is characterized by a pyramidal or bluish bark, which has a dark gray color and scales. The branches are quite thin, acquire a brown-red hue, and are rounded tetrahedral in shape.
The leaves are numerous and small, often of a bluish-green hue, and in shape they are oval or oblong. In this case, an oval or almost completely round spinal gland is present.
This type of juniper is a monoecious tree, giving single and spherical cone berries. Their diameter can vary from 9 to 12 centimeters. Color - purple-black, often with a thick whitish bloom.
Seeds are on average up to 8 pieces, while they are oblong-ovate and have blunt ribs. Outside, the upper part is covered with wrinkles.
It dusts from March or April, and the seeds ripen only in the fall. Propagated mainly by seeds carried by the wind, squirrels or birds. In addition, vaccinations can be used for this purpose.
Man uses only the wood of this plant, because it burns well and smells good. The main areas of application are carpentry and construction. Also used as fuel.
Unlike other trees or shrubs, high juniper is very often affected by diseases, in particular rust and shute, nectaric or biorellillo cancer, as well as alternariosis. The main pest is mushroom rust pears.
