A beautiful spotted fur coat pattern, characteristic of wild cats, helps them disguise themselves as an environment. And domestic cats acquired this color as a result of breeding work of breeders with their wild counterparts.
The color of the cat includes color, pattern of hair and features of the distribution of pigment in the hairs. A large number of colors of cats is explained by various natural living conditions, which had to adapt. However, all this diversity is provided by only two types of melanin pigment: eumelanin (black) and pheomelanin (red). They give many shades: chocolate, gray, red, cream, beige and others.
Both pigments at the same time can be present only in females - this results in tortoiseshell colors of cats (with red and black spots), while males are either red or black
An important contribution is made by the genes responsible for the absence of pigment - the result is a white color or white spots on the hair of an animal. And a few more genes are responsible for the brightness and muffled shades, the distribution of pigment in the hairs (agouti), the pattern on the wool (tabby).
Spotted pattern is a type of tabby color.
It is with these sets of genes that breeders create breeds with a special color. This is difficult, because feline genes can be dominant and recessive, as well as interact with each other.
Interestingly, in the genes of an absolutely white cat, other coat colors that may appear in her kittens may be hidden.
It is possible to reliably predict the result of crossing only in those cases when the color of several generations of the ancestors of the animal is known. This is possible in serious nurseries where purebred animals are bred and sold. They are also working on improving the color and experimenting with the development of new colors.
The spotted color is called spotted tabby and has a numerical designation of 24. It is assumed that there are no separate genes responsible for the appearance of spots on the animal’s hair, but there are contributing tearing of stripes and marble pattern into separate parts. The result is a variety of spots: small and large, frequent and rare, rounded and elongated. On paws and tail, spots usually turn into rings and stripes.
The spotted pattern resembles the color of leopards, so these pets are often called "little leopard"
In thoroughbred animals, the location of spots on the skin is assessed, their clarity and quantity: the more the better. Be sure to have a picture on the back and sides of the cat, as well as on the stomach. On the forehead there should be a drawing in the form of the letter "M". The muzzle often has black arrows and contour lines.
There are also tortoise spotted cats (tortie + tabby): spots are scattered on a two-color background
Paw pads and nose mirror
In spotted cats, the paw pads are about the same color as the spots. It is the color of the spots that is the main one and goes first in the name of the color. That is, a cat with black spots will be called “Black Spotted” and have dark paw pads, and a cat with saturated red spots will be called “Red Spotted” and red pads. In animals with bright spots ("Blue Spotted", "Creamy Spotted") the back of the paws will be pink.
The paw pads of spotted cats with dark spots are always black or black-brown
The color of the nose mirror also depends on the color of the coat. In black, chocolate and red pets it is brick red or brown, in blue, purple, fauns and cream it is painted in different shades of pink.
The eyes of spotted cats most often have brown, copper, orange and yellow, less often green. Eye color depends primarily on the breed of cats. In some it should be combined with color, in others it does not matter.
In this case, the nose has a brick red color and a black outline, the eyes are yellow-green and also circled in black
Spotted breed domestic cats
The spotted color is characteristic of expensive and prestigious cat breeds, often obtained from crossbreeding with wild relatives. Breeders seek a combination of a wild appearance and a relaxed, friendly character.
This breed was obtained by crossing wild Bengal cats (Asian leopards) with domestic ones. Bengals are medium-sized cats with well-developed muscles, strong legs with round paws, and a thick tail tapering to the end. The head is small, with a muzzle with high cheekbones and pronounced pads of whiskers, a large nose, wide-set ears, wide at the base and rounded at the ends. The eyes are large, round or oval, set wide and slightly oblique. Eye color does not really matter, but the brightness of the hue and the “predatory look” are appreciated. Most often, the eyes are copper, yellow and green.
Bengals have an unusual coat: tight to the body, silky and smooth, beautifully shining in the sun thanks to glitter
The coat of bengals is dense, thick, very pleasant to the touch. It can have glitter (radiance) - a golden or silver sheen of wool. Colors are divided into brown (gold), silver and snow shades. The fur coat pattern is spotty or marble. In both cases, a darker pattern is located on a light background. The spots should be as contrasted as possible, the paw pads and the tips of the ears and tail are dark (brown or black). The belly is light, spotty. The stroke of the chin, nose and eyes are desirable. The undercoat is light.
The first three colors are officially recognized, and the last two (blue and black) are not
There are two kinds of spots on bengals: ordinary plain and sockets. A rosette is a two-color spot that is different from the main background. It can have one of three forms: arrow, paw print and donut.
It is rosettes that Bengal cats are famous for, because other breeds do not have spots of this form
The main character traits of Bengal cats: activity, playfulness, curiosity, friendliness. They are excellent climbers and hunters, not afraid of water. Get along well with children and other pets. The breed standard is the absolute absence of aggression towards humans.

This is a relatively new breed, the creator of which wanted to get a cat that looks like a serval. However, the Serengeti does not have wild ancestors, it is a hybrid of Bengal and Oriental Shorthair. Serengeti are quite large (up to 7 kg), have a muscular but graceful body, long strong legs with oval paws, which allow them to make outstanding jumps. The tail is voluminous, with a narrowing towards the end, a wedge-shaped head, with large ears pointing upwards and large eyes wide apart and set at an angle relative to each other. Serengeti are always spotted, and their colors are: brown spotted tabby, silver spotted tabby, black spotted smoky. There are two more colors: black solid and black smoky, the presence of spots in them is optional. The spots should have an oval shape and be horizontally oriented, monophonic, well different from the background.
Serengeti is better not to let yourself walk, but to walk on a leash
As for the nature of the serengeti, it takes a long time to get used to people and the new environment, so the owner must be patient. However, when she “thaws”, it turns out that she is a responsive, sociable and talkative cat. Serengeti are very curious and completely fearless, therefore they cannot be let alone on the street. Good for children.

California shining cat
The creators came up with this breed in order to stop the destruction of leopards. With its appearance, it should resemble a leopard, while not having wild genes. For breeding work, the Egyptian Mau, Siamese, British, Manx and others were used. The result was a large (7–8 kg) cat with an elongated muscular body on slender legs, with a long tail, a triangular-shaped head with small ears, rounded at the ends and huge, wide-set eyes.
Eye color depends on the color of the animal and ranges from light yellow to dark orange and hazel

The pattern of the fur coat is spotty, the spots themselves are dark, and the background for them is diverse: golden, bronze, blue, gray-anthracite, red, chocolate, black, silver. The tip of the tail is always dark, there may be stripes on the legs.

They like to walk, hunt, climb to heights and jump, so it is recommended to take them to fresh air more often.
