The incident that resonated in the Aeroflot aircraft found a response not only in the hearts of animal welfare advocates, but also in the company's employees. The habitual equating of animals with baggage became fatal and showed the price of this error. They decided to immediately review the rules in order to protect not only people, but also their pets in flight.
An official investigation
An official investigation was opened into the death of pets in the luggage compartment of a Boeing 777.
The owner of the injured animal believes that the Sheremetyevo Handling company, which handles and loads luggage on board, should be held criminally liable. Now the cause of the death of the beast is being clarified, a search is being made for those responsible for what happened. It is confirmed that movers who worked that day at Sheremetyevo Airport will be attracted for ill-treatment.
The company's management intends to once again review the stages of work and determine who is to blame: the air carrier or third-party companies. However, Aeroflot representatives assured that corrective measures would be taken immediately.
Special luggage compartments
Now pets are NOT accepted under the guise of baggage. Fighters for animal rights demand to enclose a compartment for live cargo in order to protect them from blows and crushing with heavy suitcases with things.
In the compartment for animals they want to see heating systems and devices for serving food. During the flight, animals should have a normal atmosphere of life. The discussion also includes the use of GPS-navigators, so that the owner can always know where his ward is.
Some owners say they are ready to fly with their pet in the luggage compartment and monitor its safety. Providing a pet compartment with a dedicated employee is imperative.
“Animal is not baggage” - passengers, users of social networks severely criticize the system for calculating compensation for animals by weight.
The amount for 1 damaged and lost kg of baggage is 600 rubles on Russian flights and 1800 rubles on international flights. Such a “cold calculation” shocking zoodefenders who urge to stop considering pets as things, because they are living creatures. Aeroflot is urgently asked to increase compensation for injuries and death of pets, because for most people these are family members. People see the motivation for the carrier company to be more careful about the transportation of such cargo in an increase in payments.
Labeling of carry and containers
Carrying requirements are now different. On board will be allowed: soft carrying bags in the sum of three dimensions not exceeding 126 cm (previously up to 135 cm), containers of solid materials up to 44x30x26 cm in size (previously 125 cm in the sum of three dimensions). The change in standards is due to the fact that it will now be convenient to transport animals in the cabin, placing them under the seat of the front seat. Only pets in cages with the IATA marking will go on the flight, which means that the container complies with the standards of the international air carrier association.
Certain identification marks are put on the carriage: pets weighing up to 8 kg can travel in the cabin next to the owner, and larger animals will have to stay in the luggage compartment.
