The environment of the city is characterized by diverse landscapes. On the territory of Ulyanovsk there is a reservoir. Also here flows the Seld River, the underground Simbirka, Volga and Svityaga. The last two flow in opposite directions. Their banks are washed away and there is a chance of these rivers to merge into one in several million years.
Climatic zone of Ulyanovsk
Ulyanovsk is located on hilly terrain and the differences in the city are up to 60 meters. The village is located in the forest-steppe natural zone. If we talk about climate, the city lies in the temperate continental zone. The territory is dominated by moderate air masses. The climate is influenced by Atlantic cyclones, Central Asian anticyclones , and Arctic currents in winter. On average, about 500 mm of rain falls per year, about 200 days a year when it rains and snows. Humidity increased in winter, in summer it is moderate.
Winter comes in November, and frosts hit up to –25 degrees Celsius. The snow lies for a very long time, and melts in late March or early April. Spring is very short, lasts 6-8 weeks. But even in May there may be frosts. The average summer temperature is + 20- + 25 degrees, but sometimes it’s hot when the thermometer shows more than +35 degrees. Autumn comes approximately, as on the calendar, then quietly alternating in winter.
The nature of Ulyanovsk
In Ulyanovsk there is a sufficient number of green spaces, including rare plants, bushes, flowers. Natural objects of the city are under protection. It was in this city that the first practice of protecting the ecological park took place. Here, information signs have been developed, which are now used in other settlements.

In the city, specialists care about the conservation of biological diversity. There are a sufficient number of species of plants, animals and birds. If we talk about the state of the atmosphere, then the air of Ulyanovsk is slightly polluted in comparison with other settlements. It is worth noting that the city regularly conducts environmental monitoring. There are four posts for this. Observations are carried out six days a week three times a day.
So, Ulyanovsk has a unique natural zone, good climatic conditions, and rich flora and fauna. Environmental problems here are not as acute as in other cities of the Russian Federation.
