Hypotheses of origin
Rock paintings of poodles are found on Roman tombs of the 30s BC and on Greek coins of the Middle Ages. The exact time of the appearance of the breed cannot be calculated, but already in the XVI-XVII centuries it was widespread throughout Europe. The ancestors of poodles are called various large hunting and shepherd breeds, including greyhounds, cops, barbets, water spaniels. They were mixed with the blood of decorative dogs.
It has not been ascertained for certain on the territory of which of the countries - Germany or France - the dwarf poodle breed appeared. The general name of the breed is of German origin and means “completely wet” dog, because initially these animals were used for hunting, they easily delivered a bird that fell into the water. However, many believe that France is the birthplace of the breed, and therefore it was there that the poodles quickly gained recognition among members of the royal family, aristocracy and intelligentsia. In Russia, these dogs appeared in the 19th century in connection with the spread of fashion to French culture.

In world cynological standards, 4 varieties of the breed are recognized:
- large (standard) poodle;
- small (medium);
- toy (the smallest representative).
Clubs of Germany and France simultaneously developed standards for the dwarf poodle breed: for the first time, the description of the breed's characteristics was published in Berlin in 1880, and the current standard was approved in 1936 in France.

This miniature dog weighs on average like a cat: from 5 to 7 kg, although sometimes a haircut creates the appearance of heaviness. Life expectancy is approximately 10-17 years. Puppies maintain the proportions of adults. A poodle is composed harmoniously and proportionally: the total length of the head is slightly more than 2/5 of the height at the withers (in males - from 28 to 38 cm, in females - from 28 to 35 cm). The oval of the skull narrows smoothly to the nose.

The muzzle lines are regular, the lips fit tightly to the teeth and close them. The nose is black or brown, a lightened nose is considered a serious flaw. The eyes are almond-shaped, ears are long, expand and rounded at the ends. The back is straight, the front end of the chest should slightly protrude. The abdomen is slightly tightened, the tail is set high (docking is optional). Legs are straight, legs are gathered in a lump; the pitch should be springy.
For exhibitions, a professional haircut is required. The coat is thick, thin, like a fleece, of two types - curly or cordy - without undercoat, odorless and molting (therefore, this species of breed does not cause allergies).
There are few recognized colors: in addition to the black dwarf poodle, white, brown, gray (silver), red (recently approved by the canine standard) and apricot poodle are common. But such coat colors as tan and harlequin are recognized only in Russia.

The character and habits of the dwarf poodle
These four-legged pets are characterized by curiosity, a keen mind (not without reason they occupy the 2nd place in quick wits after a border collie), susceptibility and a cheerful meek disposition. They are obedient, want to be in the spotlight and cannot stand loneliness. They are easy to learn, strongly attached to a person, and can very much depend on the emotions of the owner.

Children and other domestic animals, such as a cat, usually come across good nature and sociability on the part of the poodle (even if the cat herself is not happy about this), but some dogs are very jealous or too excited. The sensitivity of the poodle leads to the fact that if he is offended, the behavior of the four-legged friend will become destructive until the owner apologizes.
A poodle can be protective in order to protect its owner, but more often it is limited to a loud bark without attack. In general, young poodles like the sound of their own voice, which is why they can bother with frequent barking. Although this will pass with age, it must not be allowed to become a habit in the dog.
Among strangers, the mini-poodle behaves incredulously and wary, just like a cat is nervous among strangers. However, you should not think that he can easily get lost: these dogs are hardy and, thanks to their excellent scent and memory, easily find the shortest way to home, even if they are far from it.
Care and maintenance of the mini poodle
A miniature poodle requires careful care. It is important to accustom him to hygienic and preventive procedures from early childhood so that the dog does not show aggression and irritation during them. 1-2 times a week, the dog needs to be bathed with the use of special shampoos and mild conditioners, as they are vital that the coat is always clean. Hair should be combed out several times a week, especially since a poodle enthusiastically perceives this procedure. It is advisable to have brushes and combs that are different in appearance and frequency of the teeth of the arsenal.
Grooming should be carried out at least once every 2 months so that the coat does not get tangled and does not pull the skin of the dog, causing it pain. It is more convenient to use a machine, rather than scissors. Fashionable hairstyles, such as a “under the lion” haircut, “modern”, “sheep” haircuts, are optional, you can restrict yourself to uniformly shortening the hair along the natural contours of the body. The dwarf poodle's coat is thin, so in the winter months the dog needs to be worn warmly, otherwise it will freeze.

The condition of the claws, ears, eyes and teeth also needs to be monitored: trim the claws on time, clean the ears with a cotton swab to avoid inflammation, remove smudges under the eyes with a special lotion, and regularly remove tartar. In addition, the dog should be regularly vaccinated and treated against parasites (helminths, ticks and fleas).
A dwarf poodle is an energetic dog that requires regular exercise (at least half an hour a day). She loves overcoming obstacles, catching a flying saucer, aporta, stunts and swimming. Poodle's health problems are often associated with poor nutrition and passivity.
Feed the poodle at the same time and balanced. Fatty foods, sweets and baked goods, potatoes and legumes should be excluded from the diet. You can feed the dog with finished or premium food, or homemade food (meat, cereals - rice and buckwheat, boneless sea fish, vegetables, dairy products, eggs, fruits). It is impossible to mix the types of feed, because the balance of nutrients is upset. Vitamins are recommended periodically.
Dwarf poodles are most often affected by such genetic diseases as retinal atrophy, epilepsy, deafness, diabetes, heart disease, ear infections, excessive tearing, dislocation of the patella, umbilical hernia.
If the muzzle of the muzzle is not performed on time, these dogs may decrease visual acuity, up to blindness.
It’s easy and pleasant to train a dwarf poodle, which is why these animals often perform in a circus or on stage. Many owners manage to teach their pet commands and tricks (to bring things, open and close doors, remove shoes from a person, give a voice, make turns) even without encouraging goodies, with a simple praise. But punishments and a sharp commanding voice from a poodle can not get the result, a strict look for him will already be enough. If the animal becomes bored during training, it will show artistry: pretend to be sick or stupid.
Many people think that a dwarf poodle is no more useful than a cat, but the case in 2008 in Orenburg proves the opposite! The gray poodle named Dick, with his zeal, helped catch thieves who, unnoticed by anyone, broke open the door of the dog owner and robbed the apartment. Dick sat in the stairwell and tried to bark non-stop to draw attention to the actions of attackers. The landlord heard barking from the street and hurried home. By locking the door, he was able to detain the criminals caught by this tiny dog until the police arrived.
