The unique book “Photos of cats. Walter Chandoha. 1942–2018 ”released the American publisher Taschen. It represents the work of a man who devoted 70 years of his life to photographing cats.
It all started in the winter of 1949, when Walter brought home a little homeless kitten, hungry and frozen, in his bosom. He grew up in a hefty cat with a violent temper and became the first model for his master. Since then, Chandokha has seriously taken a great interest in photographing cats and turned it into high art.
Chandoha's cat portraits graced the covers of three hundred magazines and much more: T-shirts and postcards, posters and food cans. Only in his declining years did the master refuse black and white photographs in favor of color ones.
Only two years did not live out Walter Chandoch before his centenary. He died in January of this year, leaving an archive of 90 thousand cat photographs.
